Welcome to the new letter from the Editor, Mondays. This is simply a name and day change and will not affect the quality or care of editor advice. Feel free to steal our banner :)
Some writers find it helpful to switch back and forth from one project to another. Whether this minimizes fear or boredom, or both, it seems to prevent writer's block for many people.
The muse is a fickle beast. One day she may be all about that romantic suspense you are working on and the next day she may be interested in a writing a ghost story. I have never had writers block and I attribute that to the fact that no matter what my main project is, I will go wherever I am feeling the strongest on that particular day. Whether it’s starting a new project, finishing an old one or pecking at my current one.
Trust me it’s easier to add to what you already have started than get something out of nothing. There is too much pressure on you in that instance. Set your goals then go with the flow, remember you are an artist! Grab your laptop or your pen and just write.
This is a ten part series regarding the prevention of and the handling of writers block. Come back next week for Get help! There are prizes for being involved in the ten week Monday editor course, you have to be here 8 weeks out of ten to qualify for the grand prize.

Keira Kroft,

I agree with this post whole-heartily! I love giving every genre out there a try, but sappy romance is just not my thing...that doesn't mean that I won't write a contemporary novel, it just means I have to take several breaks from it and write something I really love.
ReplyDeleteI've never had the block either and I think it's because I move about so much. Horror to dark fantasy, to thriller then back to romance... then race away to anything, then maybe back to part two in a children's book. As of right now I have 4 open novels and 1 novella that I plan on finishing one day, but they are all moving slowly along. One might say I find my freedom in writing by filling my goal with chaos..LOL
I look forward to 'Get Help' I need to learn how to put things in order and still have a blast with it all. *Wink Hint Beg* Any advice on how I can clean up my work ways and be happy as a pig in a mud hole...I would be grateful!!!
I don't think I've ever had writer's block either. Fear of starting a new project maybe. But usually its more like writer ADD- so full of project ideas that it's hard to settle on just one.
ReplyDeleteAnother great post!
Stacey
I don't know if that would work for me or not. Quite honestly I've never done that, but on the other hand, it might be just the thing to do when my muse seems to be groping for ideas. I'll try it.
