Interview between Hellfire Publishing Executive Editor
Dawn Binkley and Author Savannah Rayne
Editor: Hello there Savannah, we are so excited to have you here today on our very first Hellfire Publishing’s Table Talk Tuesday, editor to writer interview.
Savannah: Thanks Dawn, it’s a pleasure to be here!
Editor: You have a short story entitled Oh, Deer. What is that about?
Savannah: It’s about a couple who experience a rather unsettling, unnatural occurrence with some white-tailed deer in their yard. Later Jacob Ellis hears the telling of an Indian legend. It appears that, the worlds between people and nature collide.
Editor: How did you come up with the title?
Savannah: It was a play on words really. Jacob calls Donna ‘dear’ in the story, so Oh, Deer seemed to fit J
Editor: How did you choose your genre?
Savannah: I didn’t, it chose me.
Editor: What inspired you to be a writer?
Savannah: Well, a good friend of mine **wink-wink** told me I had a natural talent for writing. So I thought I’d try it. You’re never too old to try something new! I found I LOVE it too!
Editor: With all that you do, can we look forward to another book by Savannah Rayne?
Savannah: I certainly hope so! I have several that I am working on at the moment in different genres.
Editor: Are you currently running any contests? What are they?
Savannah: In the very near future, I will be having one. I’m still ironing out all the details, so fan’s, be sure to keep watching for the announcement on my Blog or my Facebook page.
Editor: What are you wearing?
Savannah: My blue, capri jammies! I’m afraid you caught me a little early this morning Dawn! I’m still having my first cup of coffee, LOL Thank goodness, there’s not a spy-cam around!
Editor: What does your family think about all that you do?
Savannah: They think I’m crazy, LOL. Seriously though, they support me and encourage me all that they can. I’ve even had them make suggestions regarding subjects for upcoming books.
Editor: We have a special place for unpublished writers in our hearts, here at Hellfire Publishing. So what advice would you give to an unpublished writer?
Savannah: Don’t give up! If writing is what you want to do…DO IT! You should just remember that if writing makes you happy, you should keep doing it…FOR YOU. Whether you’re ever published or not shouldn’t be the reason, you do it. It’s not about making money selling books, it’s really about bringing something special to someone else. Even if the only people who read your written ramblings are family and friends, if you can make them smile, laugh, cry or sleep with the lights on, that’s what matters most.
Editor: Which other Hellfire novel would you recommend?
Savannah: I can honestly say I highly recommend them all! However, I do have a few personal faves, Knight of Swords by Sara Curran-Ross, The Unauthorized Autobiography of Ethan Jacobs by Dan Dillard and A Criminal Portrait by Robert Tangiers. Oh hell…can I just list them all? They’re really all so good J
Editor: What would you like to say to your fans?
Savannah: Thanks for welcoming me into your reading world!
Editor: Can you share your blurb with us?
Savannah: I’d love to!
Blurb:
Jacob Ellis and his wife Donna live in the north woods of Wisconsin. Like most young couples, they have hobbies they enjoy. Jacob likes the outdoors, choosing four-wheeling and hunting as his forms of relaxation. Donna loves cooking, but her true passion is working in her flower garden. That is until her labor of love becomes nothing more than a colorful, tasty treat for the white-tailed deer, who share their surroundings. One night the pair experience more than the typical four legged visitor to their yard. The evening sets the path for Jacob’s decision to go against nature. After hearing a legend passed down through generations of the Chippewa Indian’s, Jacob must now decide if it’s just a myth or a lesson in the balance of law and justice— between people and nature.
