Interview between Savannah Rayne and Keira Kroft
Hello, welcome to Writer to Writer Wednesday, we are so very glad to have you with us. The Hellfire Herald would like to extend a warm welcome to Keira Kroft the alter ego of our boss Dawn Binkley.
How are you doing today?
I am ecstatic. I live for Interviews. I love them. They make me feel like a star :)
Savannah: You have a story coming out soon though Hellfire Publishing entitled Death’s Reject. What is that about?
Keira: Death’s Reject is the prequel to a series entitled The Conti Files, which follows the life of Chicago, based Mafia Crime family. It’s sort of One Tree Hill meets The Godfather. It covers many different era’s and branches of the family in their struggle to keep the old fashioned values of the Mafia alive. I will save the details of Death’s Reject for the blurb below :)
Savannah: What made you choose that title?
Keira: The premise of the story is Mafia Don, Carlo Conti thinks that his wife has betrayed him and broke the Omerta (code of silence) so he must kill her. But he can’t, he loves her too much. So the only thing in this instance that rejected her…was death. As far as the Conti Files, my characters come to me with names and they are Carlo and Constance Conti. Maybe too many years of comic books. Pepper Pots, Peter Parker, Wade Wilson, Bruce Banner...
Savannah: Where did the idea for your story come from?
Keira: My love of the all that is Mafia.
Savannah: So how many times have you seen The Godfather?
Keira: I am so glad that you asked that question. I have seen it well over 100 times. I used to rent what’s called the Godfather Saga which is 1 and 2 mixed together and in order. I did that every Sunday for over a year. When the video store closed, they told me to keep it that I had bought and paid for it already, lol. And they said: “hopefully you didn’t wear it out" :) I also read the book 10x.
Savannah: Please share a particular detail about one of characters.
Keira: I believe that it is important knowing going in, that Carlo sounds soft because he couldn’t kill his wife. But make no mistake, he is a stone cold killer and out to make a profit.
Savannah: Please tell us about any future projects you are planning.
Keira: As everyone that will listen knows, my vampire trilogy launches in July and of course there will be many more short stories revolving around the life of the Conti’s. There is no cap set on the Conti Files.
Let’s get personal…
Savannah: Do you work at job outside the home or is this only career?
Keira: Can I just laugh? For those of you that don’t know this, I run two full time businesses and write. And unless your husband is rich or Nora Roberts, you most likely work another job.
Savannah: What’s your favorite thing to do?
Keira: Watch football on crisp Sunday afternoons with my hubby.
Savannah: Are you a reader?
Keira: Veracious, yes.
Savannah: What do you wear, to write?
Keira: Pj’s or sweatpants and the only shirts I own are comic book t-shirts, I swear to God.
Savannah: Do you have children?
Keira: We have one daughter. She is beautiful and very smart.
Let talk about you and your characters…
Savannah: Can you relate to anyone of your characters?
Keira: Yes, I can relate to Connie (Constance) because she is simply a mother and wife that would do anything to protect her family…anything.
Savannah: If you could be one of the characters in your book, who would it be and why?
Keira: Truth be told, I would be Laura from Inamorata. She kicks ass and was married to a vampire, sounds like a sweet life to me.
Savannah: Which one of your characters would you marry?
Keira: Actually I do like Vampires. But I would marry Carlo Conti, he reminds me a lot of the man I am already married too. In the aspect that are both respected and feared.
Savannah: Is there anything you’d like to share with us that no one knows about you? A little secret perhaps?
Keira: Oh, I have to dig deep, I am an open book and I think I have already revealed everything secret there is to know…hmmm…
I am absolutely not shy, not at all. Not even a little bit. I will talk to anyone, anywhere, anytime.
Also people may not know this, but my husband and I both have family business backgrounds. My family had a fast food restaurant when I was growing up and my husband’s older cousin and her husband own a carnival.
Savannah: Can you share your blurb with us?
Keira: Of course
Synopsis for Death’s Reject.
