Jaidis Shaw
Hello,
welcome to Writer to Writer Wednesday, we are so very glad to have you with us.
The Hellfire Herald would like to extend a warm welcome to Jaidis Shaw.
How are
you doing today?
Jaidis: I’m doing great, thank you for asking! I’m so excited to be here!
Keira: You have a story that you just published though
Createspace entitled Destiny Awaits. What is that about?
Jaidis: The female lead, Alayna, has lost everything she cares about and she
moves to try and start over. Her new life takes a turn for the paranormal when
a vampire attacks her but is unable to finish the job. Alayna struggles to
adapt to the new world she has been brought into while fighting her feelings
for her super sexy neighbor, Jayden.
Keira: What made you
choose that title?
Jaidis: When I first began
the story it had a completely different storyline. I was forced to put it away
for a few years and when I came back to the story, I felt it needed redone. I
was so used to the title that I tweaked the new storyline to fit because I
couldn’t imagine it being called anything else.
Keira: Where did the
idea for your story come from?
Jaidis: All of my
story ideas come from dreams that I have. I’ll dream of a character and the
basic premise of the story and then I just fill in the blanks.
Keira: Please share a
particular detail about one of characters, please.
Jaidis: Alayna has
never believed in magic or the paranormal, even though she can see visions in
water. Her visions do help her to make the transition once she realizes that
supernatural beings do exist.
Keira: Please tell us
about any future projects you are planning.
Jaidis: I have
outlined book two in the Juniper Grove
Chronicles. Each book is stand-alone so book two will focus on a minor
character, Violet, that readers can meet in Destiny
Awaits.
I have also started work on a
paranormal suspense/thriller that will not be YA like Destiny Awaits is. It is tentatively titled The Stager and is about an assassin who has a unique ability that
allows her to excel at anything she desires.
Keira: Are you
currently running any contests? What are they?
Jaidis: Anyone who
frequents my blog knows that I always have several giveaways going at once.
Personally, I have been making blog visits the whole month of May and there is
usually a giveaway for Destiny Awaits
included at each stop.
Keira: How many books
have you written?
Jaidis: Destiny Awaits is my debut novel. I did
test the waters by having a couple of short stories accepted for publication
through Wicked East Press first.
Keira: We have a
special place for unpublished writers in our hearts, here at the Hellfire Herald.
So what advice would you give to an unpublished writer?
Jaidis: If you want to
be a published author then make it happen. Read books in various genres but
especially in the genre that you want to write in. Try to pick a creative idea
that hasn’t been done before. If it has been done, find a way to put a fresh
spin on it and make it your own. Take the time to have a professional editor go
over your story and be open to suggestions because you want to release a book
that you can be proud of.
Let’s get personal…
Keira: Do you
work at job outside the home or is this your only career?
Jaidis: I don’t
have a job outside of the home because I am lucky enough to work from home. I
am the Book Tour Coordinator for Nurture Your BOOKS™ so that is my day job. It is the
perfect solution since I am a stay-at-home mom.
Keira: Are you a
reader?
Jaidis: Of course!
You shouldn’t be a writer unless you are a reader – they go hand in hand.
Keira: What do you
wear, to write?
Jaidis: I love
my yoga pants! I have several pairs and that is what I wear around the house.
They are great to write in because they are super comfy.
Keira: Where in
the Hell did you find time to write?
Jaidis: I don’t have any clue how I managed to finish a book! Luck I guess…
Keira: Can you share
your blurb with us?
Twenty-year-old Alayna Scott receives visions around water,
but even her foresight couldn’t prepare her for the tragic accident that
claimed the lives of her parents. With everything she loves gone, Alayna packs
up and moves to the small town of Juniper Grove in hopes of starting over.
Jayden McKnight can’t explain the attraction that he feels whenever Alayna is
near, but he does know that he will do whatever it takes to win her heart. When
a vampire selects Alayna as his next victim, Jayden will stop at nothing to
ensure her safety – even if that means bringing Alayna into a world that she
never knew existed.
Love blossoms, challenges are made and Alayna will find herself fighting not
only to survive, but to understand what she has become.
One lucky commenter will win a
free e-copy (PDF or Mobi) of Destiny
Awaits!
